Hello Moodlers,

Upcoming events.

Moodle will be updating hardware on Friday May 17th from 10:00pm through 6:00 am on Saturday May 18th. Moodle will be down during this time period. There is a possibility that Moodlerooms will not be able to get us moved Friday and will have to do it Saturday night, in which case it will be down again that night during the same time frame. I won’t know that information until Saturday, and will send out an email as soon as I know. If you are teaching a summer class, please check your messages. With summer classes just getting started, we know this is not the best time, but it was the best of the options we were given. If your class has already started, please plan your due dates accordingly.

Upcoming Training

All training sessions are in the Learning Commons (2nd floor of the library MC248).

Wednesday, 15 May, 1-2pm Gradebook for Beginners
Wednesday, 15 May, 2 -4pm Open Session

Moodle tip of the week

Making courses available/unavailable for student access.

Chad and I are already getting emails from students who either are tired of seeing their 2013SP classes or want to see the 2013SU classes. If you are done with your class, make sure you make it unavailable, or if you want students to access the course, please make it available. On Monday, 20 May, I will make all 2013SP classes unavailable. If you need students to continue to have access to the course, you will need to make it available again.

Moodle tip of the week

We’ve had some faculty whose students can’t find the comments on their Turnitin assignments. Remember, they will not be able to see comments until after the Post Date, but once that’s past and they are having problems, here are the steps.

1. Click on the Assignment from the main page of the course (not the gradebook)

2. Click on the My Submissions tab

3. Click on the paper title underSubmissions

4. In the upper left corner of the page that opens (it may take a minute or two) there are three boxes Originality | GradeMark | PeerMark

5. Click on GradeMark

6. On the right side of the window there will be a list of general comments will appear if the instructor has written any.

7. Scroll down the paper and there are little blue ‘speech bubbles’ where a comment has been inserted, hold your mouse over the bubble and the comment will appear.

Also they need to be sure to use Firefox, rather than Internet Explorer. If they must use Internet Explorer, then they should update to version 10 and when they login to Moodle click the allow all content button that pops up
