The library invites you to the second event in the Learning and Fellowship series at noon on October 15 in the Learning Commons (M248, second floor of the library) where Nancy Steinhoff will present “How to use RefWorks to Organize Your Scholarship.” Feel free to bring a lunch. Snacks will also be available.

How does RefWorks support scholarship? RefWorks, a research tool found on the library’s web site under the tab Article Search, simplifies research. It allows the researcher to create a personal account to organize, store, and share research citations found in a variety of Viterbo databases, on the web, or in a library catalog. Features permit the researcher to directly export citations from an online database, to import citations saved to a text file from a database, and to export citations from a web page, a library catalog, or an RSS feed. The researcher can also enter references manually.

Once entered into RefWorks, citations can be organized into searchable folders describing chapters and topics. Citations contain permanent links back to the database. When you are ready to write, RefWorks automatically formats your paper and creates bibliographies using your discipline’s citation style.

Collaborate by sharing some folders or all your references with the Viterbo community or globally with other researchers through RefShare. Share through email or automatically through an RSS feed. For more detailed information view the tutorials on the RefWorks site or come to the presentation. An RSVP to ncsteinhoff@viterbo.edu is appreciated.

Next Wednesday, September 22, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., local singer Nick Shattuck will perform at Franny’s. Please stop by, have a coffee, and enjoy some fantastic music.

Learning and Fellowship Series:

Don’t forget that the first in the Learning and Fellowship series is coming next week!  Gretel Stock-Kupperman will be presenting “Have Your Research Come to You: Alerts and RSS Feeds” on September 14, at 3:30 p.m. in the Learning Commons (MC248, 2nd floor Library).  An RSVP to ncsteinhoff@viterbo.edu is appreciated.
