Our Sunday Visitor recently published an article on the history of African-American Catholics, featuring Sister Thea Bowmman, FSPA.  Sr. Thea was raised Methodist in Yazoo City, MS but converted to Catholicism at age 9, eventually joining the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration.  She was also the first African-American woman to receive a doctorate in theology from Boston College.

The Viterbo Library has many books and films about Sister Thea’s inspiring story.
